I'm not sure if it's the drastic increase in remote working, or the influx of distractions in our lives, but focus and concentration seem to be hard to find nowadays. If you're anything like me and naturally struggle with attention, you might benefit from some of these tips.
1. Chunk it Up!
Chunking your work into different segments can prime you for a successful work day. For example, have a separate time for calls, emails, planning and admin, and meetings. And make sure not to mix categories within another. For instance, if it’s planning and admin time, you don’t want to be distracted with emails. Keeping your work day segmented will help keep you on task.
2. set a timer
If you tend to lose focus often throughout the day, try including a timer into your work flow. Whether it's 20 minutes, 40 minutes, or an hour, the incriments don't matter as long as you have a designated time frame to keep your head down and on task. Having a timer helps to keep you accountable and focused on your work.
3. get an accountability partner
Speaking of accountability, get an accountability partner! Whether it’s a colleague or a classmate, get them in on it and make a game out of it. Who can call as many accounts in 30 minutes. How much load can we put away in an hour? How much of our papers can we write in 45 minutes? Make it fun and get a friend involved.
4. try nootropic supplements
Try nootropic supplements like FocusR from LifeSeasons. There are brain stimulating ingredients like huperzine a and bacopa, but also balancing ingredients like l-theanine and kava kava to keep you calm and focused on the task at hand.
5. put distractions away
Put all unnecessary distractions away. If you don’t need your phone for the task, leave it in another room. As a society we are prone to hyper stimulation and it’s easy to become a master multi-tasker. But if you’re interested in improving your focus and attention, reducing the noise and stimulation will be a big benefit!
Hope these tips helped!
